Austin + Lacey Fox: Why we are taking 'The Challenge' this year...

I can’t believe that this year holds our 4th annual A-Dollar-A-Day Challenge! It seems like yesterday that Amanda and I were sitting on ‘the rock’ at Tumaini figuring out the details of this very challenge. Our ‘labor of love,’ as we called it, has become one of our very favorite parts of the year. We will be fasting and praying for our friends who live on $1 per day- our neighbors who are often forgotten. This Valentine’s week, as we take the challenge of living for 1 week on $1 per day, we will again be reminded of how God is our provider and ALL that we need!

SO much has happened since last year’s Challenge! Austin and I went to Kenya, got engaged while we were there, and got married when we got home! God has blessed us beyond belief and we couldn’t be happier. We have CLEARLY seen God’s hand at work and we want to follow where HE leads us. We feel like that direction is back to Kenya! We have decided that we are going to go for a minimum of 6 months this time…that is the timing that we feel God has laid on our hearts…of course that could all change! We know that we want to be able to fully immerse ourselves and not always see the “end” in sight. So, that’s where our minds and hearts are as we enter this A-Dollar-A-Day Challenge. We will be fasting and praying for continued direction and guidance as we pursue HIM. We ask that you would lift us up during this time as well!

When it was time for us to come back to America this summer, neither one of us wanted to leave…but we needed to. We knew that we needed to come back for 3 reasons: 1- to spend the holidays with our families, 2-to get married, and 3- to earn enough money to get back to Kenya! We had no idea how long all of that would take, but we knew that it was necessary. We didn’t have a plan, but HE did! We were so blessed by family and friends who showered us with amazing gifts for our wedding…and through it, we can now say that we are ready to go! HE had a plan and we are so grateful!

Now here is where you come in...This year, we are using 'The Challenge' as a fund raiser…you may be saying “but I thought you had all of your money??” True. We have enough to pay for our plane tickets and for our food and housing for the 6 months…We have enough for US. We are asking for help for the ministry part of our trip. As of right now we have some ideas as to what we will do while in Kenya, but we are also using this week to be still and listen to where the Lord is leading us. Our desire is to be available. We want to go where HE leads, do what HE asks us to do, and be who HE created us to be. We need help with whatever ministry opportunities that HE brings our way. I know that it is crazy to ask for money when we don't know what it will go towards, but we ask that you step out and put your trust in our amazing God who knows what HE is going to do with it.

We know that not everyone has the means to contribute, but we ask that you prayerfully consider joining us on this journey. We don’t want to guilt anyone into skipping meals out or not going to Starbucks this week…We just ask that you really consider standing beside us as we take this huge step. Please continue praying for us as we take on the A-Dollar-A-Day-Challenge this year. We can’t wait to see what God is going to do!! We love and appreciate you all!!
